Writing from Art: a generative workshop for artists and writers

Saturday, May 9, 10 AM - 12 PM

Main Street Arts
Saxtons River, VT

Artists and writers have long borrowed from, responded to, and inspired each other across centuries; tap into that irresistible pull to be in conversation across time and mediums with this generative writing circle. In two nourishing hours, we'll play our way into a new piece of writing: no formal art or writing experience necessary.

Starting with a playful writing exercise to shake loose whatever you’ve carried in the door, we’ll settle into a meditative reading on the place where visual art, performance, and the written word meet. With fresh inspiration, we’ll write independently then come together to share in a structured feedback session guided by the question, “what is beautiful here?” Sharing is always an invitation, never a requirement.

For writers of all genres and experience levels, and for artists of any discipline looking to encounter their medium in a new way. Whether you're a poet, a journaler, a novelist, a painter, a dancer, or simply someone who has felt the pull to make a mark on paper, this is a place for you. Contact me to learn more.

“Cheyenne is skilled at giving feedback to writers and pulling out threads and themes which helps writers create cohesive work. I found her to be gifted in her feedback, and her guidance was gentle, competent, and very perceptive and insightful.” — Jennifer Goldman, Essayist and Poet

“I’ve found that Cheyenne recognizes the value of each writer’s unique voice and helps writers make each piece they write as powerful as possible. It’s clear she has read extensively in different genres and periods: she understands complex narrative and intuitive structures, is sensitive to layers of meaning and the rhythms of language, and pays attention to each piece as a whole and to the particulars — each sentence, each word.” — Wendy Andersen, Creative Nonfiction Workshop Leader

“Cheyenne's guidance significantly improved my writing project. In the past year, I've learned more from Cheyenne than I did in all my writing workshops and college courses combined.” — Birgit Sandoval, Novelist
